String Lessons

Join the Gifford Academy for Performing Arts

Our String After-School Music Program serves students from beginner through advanced levels and includes instruction in violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Students receive structured, supportive training that builds strong technical foundations while fostering musical expression and confidence.

Beginners typically start in group lessons, where they learn foundational skills such as posture, instrument care, bowing technique, note reading, rhythm, and ensemble awareness in a collaborative setting. As students progress, private lessons are available to provide individualized instruction tailored to each student’s goals, skill level, and musical development.

Advanced string students have the opportunity to join our Advanced String Ensemble, which performs throughout the community and provides valuable experience in collaboration, musicianship, and public performance.

Lessons are offered in 30-minute to 1-hour sessions, with lesson length determined by the student’s experience level and group size. Our string program is designed to guide students from their very first notes to confident performance, cultivating discipline, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
