Featuring Guest Speaker: United Against Poverty of Indian River County

Join us for GAPA’s next Parent Action Committee (PAC) Meeting on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Gifford Community Center.

This month’s meeting will feature a special presentation from United Against Poverty (UP), an incredible local organization dedicated to empowering families and individuals through a variety of community programs. Parents, families, friends, and all community members are welcome to attend!

UP will share information about its membership grocery store, clothing store, workforce education programs, and job placement opportunities—all designed to help Indian River County residents build stability and self-sufficiency.

🌟 United Against Poverty Launches SNAP Support Initiative: Bridging the Gap for Residents Impacted by the SNAP Benefit Freeze

As the federal freeze on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits leaves many families uncertain about how to put food on the table, United Against Poverty of Indian River County is stepping up to help.

Beginning Monday, November 3, residents affected by the SNAP freeze are encouraged to visit the UP Center, located at 1400 27th Street in Vero Beach, to receive vouchers for the Member Share Grocery Program.

Voucher Distribution Hours:
🕙 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily

Residents may receive their vouchers during the week they would normally receive their SNAP benefits. This schedule helps ensure families have access to food when they need it most.

In addition, local nonprofit agencies will be on-site during the same hours (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily) to provide additional resources and support for individuals and families facing hardship during the shutdown.

“We know this freeze is creating real fear for veterans, seniors, and families who depend on SNAP to feed their children,” said Matt Tanner, Executive Director at United Against Poverty. “We’re here to connect people with the help they need right now.”

UP encourages all affected residents to visit the UP Center during the scheduled hours or go to UPIRC.org for more information about available programs and resources.
